What toddler can resist some arts and crafts? You could transform old materials into something colorful and creative, and have some fun whilst doing it!
If your child has been doing gardening activities or taking part in a sunflower growing competition at their nursery, like at Kiddi Caru for example, then you can incorporate this as some natural inspiration for the crafts you do together at home.
So, let their imaginations run wild, as we guide you through the top spring-themed crafts that you can do with your little one.

Cardboard Creatures

Nature is full of small creatures, especially during spring. Each winged creature at this time can be seen with unique patterns and bright colors, so they make great subjects for some cardboard-creating fun. If you’d like to make some cardboard creatures with your child, here’s what you need:

Firstly, your toddler should paint the cardboard tube – an old toilet roll tube is the best size for this craft. If making a butterfly, they could paint it blue, or if you prefer a ladybird, then paint it black. Set aside to dry.
Next, fold the colored paper in half, and with your help, cut out the shape of a wing – which will make a full set of wings when folded out. Again, if making a butterfly you can use any colored paper, but for a ladybird, a red piece of paper is best.
Your child can then color and decorate the paper wings how they like. Lots of patterns for a butterfly and plenty of dots for a ladybird. Once done, help to stick the wings to the painted tube.
The final step is to glue two pipe cleaners to the top of the tube to create antennas and draw on a cheerful face. Your wonderful cardboard creature is then complete and can be played with or displayed outside, as your child learns about the wildlife in their garden.

Flower Paintings

During this season, as you explore the outdoors with your toddler, you’re guaranteed to see lots of flowers in bloom. So why not take your crafting outside, and create some paintings and pictures from the nature that you see all around you.
As previously mentioned, if your family or your child’s pre-school have been growing sunflowers this spring, take this opportunity to paint these beautiful, yellow flowers.
To create a sunflower painting, you will need:

Firstly, guide your little one to paint a long green stem and some leaves on the paper. Next comes the fun and messy part! Lay your child’s hand into a plate of yellow paint until it's completely covered. Then take their hand and press it down at the top of the stem on the paper, making sure the fingers are spread out, to create the sunflower shape.
All that is needed now is to paint a black spot in the middle for the center of the flower, and the picture is complete. Display on your fridge door, or paint on a folded piece of card to make a beautiful greetings card.

Blossom Pictures

Paint isn’t the only material that can create some fabulous springtime pictures. As you spend more time outdoors with your family, you sure to notice that blossoms have begun to bloom. You can incorporate this season’s prettiest trees in your crafts, through the use of tissue paper.
If you’d like to make a tissue paper blossom picture, here’s what you’ll need:

First of all, help your little one to draw a brown tree trunk and branches on a piece of paper. Then, after you’ve cut the tissue into strips, let them scrunch it up into little balls. Next, add some glue onto the tissue paper, and guide them to stick it onto the branches on the paper. Once the paper is completely full of little flower buds, the picture is complete.
You can use any colored tissue paper for this craft, but if taking inspiration directly from nature, pink works best. Why not take this activity outside, so your toddler can look at the real-life blossom trees and learn about the great outdoors whilst creating their blossom picture?
