For most of us, 2020 has been a dreadful year. With lockdowns and curfews in countries across the world, people have been restricted to the confines of their homes. Socializing, clubbing, and traveling have all become luxuries of the past. Although the world seems to be getting used to life in a pandemic, there are numerous restrictions that one has to live with. With only essential services operating without restriction, access to gyms has been limited and even prohibited in some regions. Although considered essential by all healthcare professionals, maintaining social distance in gyms is near impossible, and even if you are amongst the lucky few who still have access to one, it is probably best that you avoid them.
Not having access to a gym, however, is no reason to slack off and not pay attention to your well-being and fitness. There are numerous exercises that you can perform in the confines of your home, and by installing multipurpose gym equipment, you can get a full-body workout without hitting the gym or burning a hole in your pockets.
Here is a list of some great multi-purpose gym equipment that you couldn’t go wrong with.

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are probably amongst the cheapest gym equipment you can pick up and they don’t need any storage space either. They are a great way of strengthening your muscles and allow you to increase the intensity of bodyweight exercises. You can work out your legs, arms, shoulders, back, core muscles, and even your neck.  Resistance bands are available in various lengths and varying stiffnesses, allowing you to perform exercises of different intensities. So you can gradually increase the difficulty levels of your exercises as you progress.

Yoga Mat

The name in itself is self-explanatory. A yoga mat will help you perform yoga asanas with ease. These exercises will help not only in developing cardiovascular fitness but also help in reducing stress and anxiety. A yoga mat is also perfect for performing stretching exercises for your pre-workout warming up sessions and post-workout cooling down sessions. It also allows you to perform bodyweight exercises.

Rowing Machine

A rowing machine is also known as an indoor rower. Although it is not a multipurpose machine in the true sense, as you can perform only one exercise, the exercise in itself targets various muscle groups and also aids the development of cardiovascular fitness, making it a complete body workout. It is a great way of conditioning your muscles while at the same time building up your stamina. Modern rowing machines also come equipped with ergometers that have features that let you adjust the intensity level of the exercise and at the same time monitor your heart rate, distance covered, calories burnt, and set different targets. This makes these machines suitable for people of all fitness levels and different age groups. The motion of the exercise is fluidic and as such, it is low impact in nature and does not impose any stress on your joints.
For your home gym, you need to have at least one machine that helps you develop cardiovascular fitness. While this objective can also be met through machines like treadmills, steppers, and stationary bicycles, the rowing machine allows you to target a wider range of muscles as compared to the others.

Multi-Gym Station

No gym is complete without a multi-gym station. If you are setting out to build a home gym, this should be your centerpiece. While the equipment so far has been about conditioning and complete body workouts, this is where you get to perform your weight training exercises to build muscles and strength. The biggest advantage of having a multi-gym station in your home gym is that compared to individual machines and weight training equipment, it requires considerably less space. Furthermore, a Multi-Gym Station based on a functional trainer will let you perform weight training exercises while helping you maintain your form. These come equipped with pull-up bars, pulleys, and adjustable weights that ensure that you can perform exercises with the right amount of resistance that is distributed evenly throughout the movement. These exercises are safer than traditional weights and can help prevent injuries.

Medicine Balls

A medicine ball, also known as an exercise ball would be another great addition to your home gym. It is a tool that lets you perform a full-body workout by combining different exercises. These exercises could include lunges, the Russian twist, and deadlifts. A major advantage of using medicine balls is that these exercises force you to work out while being off-balance, improving your balance and coordination. Further, they also help in improving posture by helping develop stronger core and back muscles.
The Multi-Purpose Gym equipment described here will allow you to perform multiple exercises targeting different muscle groups in your body while minimizing cost and space requirements. This makes them perfect for a home gym, where these two elements are usually the biggest constraints. With these at home, you will be hard-pressed to find an excuse to not work out.
