All hospitals understand the importance of giving the best medical care for their patients, and it’s often their first and main goal is to provide excellent medical care. Receiving healthcare is a human right, and everyone is entitled to be provided with the best medical care. But what is the best medical care everyone should have in hospitals?

Accessibility and Wait Time

When a patient is complaining of some ailment, they require expedited health care. Therefore, the hospital must seek to improve how they take appointments to reduce the wait time for patients. Moreover, patients have to be able to have around-the-hour access to healthcare providers, whether it’s physicians or nurses. Hospitals have to put emphasis on hourly rounds when it comes to in-house patient care since they are highly effective when it comes to providing the best service for patients. The benefits of hourly rounds are making sure the patient is not in pain, checking their position, and their bathroom needs.

Information and Communication

All information and instructions should be made clear to the patient. The patient must know all about his medical and administrative procedures. Moreover, any errors that happen at the administrative level should be avoided. For instance, failing to appropriately fill the case notes, and failing to establish the site of the procedures may result in poor patient care. Administrative staff or counselors are the links between patients and physicians. Therefore, they have to be well trained so they can make the hospital staff’s work easier and enhance the patient’s experience.
Additionally, the patients have to be given proper instructions on how to take care of themselves when they get discharged. For instance, a nurse has to explain to the patient how a catheter works and give them all the instructions on what they should do and what they shouldn’t do. For example, concerns like whether they can take a shower or a bath with a catheter or not, how to take care of it at home, and any useful information about it should be addressed. Communication should be a priority, as well. Health possesses a very deep concern and source of anxiety for the patient and the patient’s family. Therefore, staff should be trained to properly address patients’ concerns. That’s why hospitals usually invest in dedicating an entire department to ensure the mental well-being of patients.

Well Trained Medical Staff

Patients have to be provided with high-quality medical attention that delivers the desired outcomes. A well trained medical personnel will reduce a patient's mortality rate significantly. According to a reviewed paper, the mortality rate goes down 13% with well trained medical personnel. Moreover, well-trained personnel achieves several milestones. For instance, reaction times with patients increase by 18%, medical errors are reduced by 18%, and patient satisfaction increases by 13%. Teamwork between everyone working in the hospital improves due to better training. As a result, training is important because it helps physicians, nurses, and administrative staff provide patients with the best medical care.

Equipment and Medical Instruments

Even if medical personnel is properly trained, without the proper equipment, they wouldn't be able to provide their patients with adequate care. Therefore, good, well-maintained equipment is integral for the best medical care a hospital could provide their patients with. Medical equipment enables both medical technicians and doctors to diagnose a patient’s medical condition. For instance, specific critical procedures will not succeed without good medical instruments and equipment. Medical equipment could help monitor a patient’s vitals during operation. Not to mention that the equipment is made with extreme precision, so they’re extremely delicate and precise when used on a patient.
Sterilizing equipment should be a very high priority because, without proper sterilization, serious complications will occur. Improper sterilization and disinfections for equipment could lead patients to catch very serious infections. According to several reports, 1 in 25 patients catch viruses while receiving treatments in the hospital, which leads to an annual death rate of 90,000 and very large fines for hospitals.

Technology Upgrades

There are always new medical technological advances introduced out there. Hospitals have to always keep up to date with new technologies and seek to always implement it. New technologies don’t necessarily mean technologies that help doctors and nurses, it could be something to help administrative staff with managing patients’ documents. For instance, applying a digital documentation system will help staff provide patients with quick and easy service by being able to get patients’ information out quickly and reducing their wait time.
When a patient is given quality care, it always has a positive outcome on their health. Not to mention that it can improve their mental and physical quality of life because of the positive recovery experience that they had, especially if they suffered from a serious illness. Moreover, patients are more likely to adhere to the treatment's instructions because of the level of mutual respect between the patient and the caregiver.
