The way that you start your morning sets a tone for the rest of the day. If you find yourself feeling super fatigued and unproductive when you wake up, you may need to switch up your routine. Integrating simple habits like sipping from a glass water bottle before getting up or spending a few minutes meditating can significantly shift your mindset. You want to make sure that your routine nourishes not only your body but also your mind and spirit. When we feel good, we become more confident, and our overall attitude towards life improves. If your morning routine needs a revamp, check out some of these tips.
Start Your Day Off By Drinking Water
Drinking enough water is one of the most important things you can do throughout the day. Because we are composed of more than 60 percent water, hydration is essential for our bodies to function correctly—especially our brains. If you feel foggy in the mornings, you may not be drinking enough water. Using a bkr reusable water bottle will help motivate you to sip throughout the day, and because it's so pretty and you'll want to carry it with you everywhere. Having the simple reminder of physically having your water bottle with you can be enough to get you to drink more, but you can also implement tricks like setting alarms. Get in the habit of grabbing your bottle first thing in the morning and hydrate before you do anything else.
Get Some Exercise
Morning is the perfect time to exercise. Although getting all sweaty may sound like the last thing you want to do in the morning, exercising early boosts productivity and gives you more energy throughout the day. That little rush of endorphins will have you feeling healthy and confident as you get ready for work. But, you don't have to complete an intense workout to reap the benefits. Try taking a morning walk to get your muscles moving and enjoy the fresh air. On rainy days, stay inside and spend ten to fifteen minutes stretching.
Everyone could benefit from a little bit of daily meditation. It doesn't have to take very long—you can meditate for 10 minutes every morning and still feel the effects. The goal of mediation is to take your mind off everyday thoughts and focus on your breathing. More advanced techniques use visualization as a focal point. Test out different guided meditation videos or apps to find what works for you. Meditation has been shown to alleviate feelings of anxiety and stress while boosting focus and confidence. We can't think of a better way to start the day.
Eat a Nutritious Breakfast
You're probably thinking, "yeah, yeah—we know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day," but it's true. Many adults are guilty of skipping this morning meal (ourselves included) because they feel like they don't have time to sit down for breakfast or they don't have much of an appetite. Don't let these reasons stop you. Breakfast is important because it jumpstarts your metabolism and gives you energy for the first part of your day. You don't have to go all out Martha Stewart with pancakes, eggs, croissants, bacon and the works. Just have something light, like a piece of avocado toast (add an egg for protein) or yogurt with granola and fruit. We promise you'll feel a difference.
Collect Your Thoughts
Many of us feel the pressure to dive straight into our work as soon as we wake up in the morning, but this can be detrimental to our mental health and leave us less focused. Instead, allow yourself to wake up slowly (physically and mentally) and take time to write down some goals for the day. This routine will help you feel more focused and less overwhelmed on your to-do list. Another excellent morning exercise is journaling. Spend a few minutes writing down your thoughts for the day. Writing in a journal can reduce feelings of depression and anxiety and improve your overall mood.
Prepare For the Day
In the morning, give yourself enough time to prepare for the day ahead of you. Many people have other activities after work, so you want to make sure you're ready for everything you've got going on. Make a habit of checking your calendar each morning so you don't miss anything important. If you prefer to go to the gym in the afternoon, don't forget your 32 oz water bottle to stay hydrated, happy and healthy all day.
Listen to Music or a Podcast
Although many people like to turn on the morning news, we're not always greeted with the most positive stories. It's important to stay in the know about current events, but instead of diving right into the hard-hitting stories for the day, try to work a little good news into your morning. Listen to your favorite podcast or put on a feel-good playlist to enhance your mood and stimulate your brain. If you prefer to watch TV in the morning, try an upbeat show like The Morning Toast.
Make Your Mornings the Best Part of the Day
When you look forward to your morning routine, you'll start to notice those feelings of fatigue disappearing. Instead of waking up with just enough time to throw on your work clothes and run out the door, give yourself enough time to mentally and physically wake up. Grab your water bottle to jumpstart your day and then take some time to meditate, exercise or journal. Jumping straight into work is not great for your mental health or stress levels. As you learn to implement these healthy morning habits, you'll find yourself thriving in all areas of your life.
