With this year's car models, you can see some incredible technological advancements. Some are very cool, like the Apple Car Play, which allows you to use the Apple iPhone as the most frequently used vehicle navigation device. Others are more gimmicky and only really exist to make driving more fun. Nonetheless, whatever you are after for your car, there will be a gadget for it!
1. Heads Up Display (HUD)
The head-up display, or HUD, is a computer display in a vehicle that projects information onto the windshield or other transparent surfaces for the driver. The term HUD can refer to a single projection screen in the windshield or a system of multiple screens, usually mounted in the dashboard. Nowadays, HUDs usually provide vehicle speed and direction information, navigation information, and other information.
2. Portable Car Vacuum Cleaner
Cars get filthy; it is the inevitable outcome of spending a lot of time driving around in them. No matter how meticulous you are regarding cleanliness, small crumbs and bits of fluff are unavoidable. This is where it can be helpful to keep a small, portable vacuum cleaner somewhere nearby. This gadget is usually designed with a vehicle in mind and will come with extra extensions that make it easier to clean in the hard-to-reach areas. It should also be rechargeable via the 12V cigarette lighter standard in all cars.
3. Smart Tire Safety Monitor
This is an exciting gadget because it combines with your phone via an app and some sensors. It comes as a set, and you will probably need to have your mechanic install the sensors on your wheel, but once everything is installed and set up, you can begin to receive information about your tire pressure remotely via your phone. This is a great gadget to invest in because it can save you a fortune in tire replacements. For example, most modern cars will have tires that can keep going for a while, even with a puncture. This is great, but the drawback is that you often don't know you have a flat until it is too late. You see, when you drive on a punctured tire, you can end up damaging the wall, and instead of it being a simple repair job, you will need to buy a new tire. With this sensor, you can see when you have a blowout or a slow puncture and have the time to decide on your course of action.
3. In-Car Entertainment (ICE)
All cars need some ICE to make the journey more bearable. Whether you are taking a long road trip or driving to and from the office each day, a high-quality ICE system is a must to be able to listen to music on the go. These usually come already installed in your car, but you can upgrade to get the latest and greatest features. When searching for the best double DIN head units on the market, you should make sure they include either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, depending on which operating system you use. This will enable you to control every aspect of your music to navigate far more efficiently.
4. Breathalyzer
It is always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to drinking and driving. This is the leading cause of auto accidents and is an easily avoidable one. It is, however, all too easy to jump into your car after a few drinks and drive off without thinking about it. This is why every driver should keep a breathalyzer in their glove box, ready to take a quick test. If you are over the limit, don't risk it and call up a spouse or friend to pick you up. They may not like it, but it could ultimately save your life and the lives of other people.
5. Dash Camera
The days of arguing over who caused the accident is long over with the advent of dash cams. They are installed behind your rearview mirror and record as you are driving. They are fantastic to help sort out insurance claims, and some insurance companies may even lower your premiums if installed.
6. Portable Car Battery Jump Starter
So you forgot to turn off your lights when you went to the shops, it's an easy mistake to make. The good news is that you can jump your car with little effort instead of having to walk around the parking lot asking anyone who looks at you for assistance. Essentially it is a high-capacity battery pack that you attach as usual to your car battery to get it started.
Some of these gadgets are cool, others are more utilitarian, but they are all worthwhile having in your car. Moreover, some of them may even save lives.
