What an exciting time it is when a newborn is expected! Space has to be made in the home, ready for the delightful new addition. There are so many things to plan and think about. Alongside this, mum will be getting more tired and ready to give birth as time goes on. It will be worth every minute spent on preparation, and every penny spent on equipment. Let’s look at six things right now that are essential purchases.

These must be both comfortable and supportive. The base strap should help spread the weight of the newborn across your hips. The straps should be firm and fully able to keep the child secure.
There should always be adequate space for the child to breathe in terms of safety, mainly as they are often sick after feeding. No one wants their child to experience dysplasia either, so the newborn’s legs must be kept apart while it is in the carrier. When it comes to the best baby carriers, the professionals say they come at many styles, designs, and prices. They must be ergonomic in design and safe at all times. Carriers that are made of breathable material are a godsend when it comes to warm weather.

Medical specialists recommend the newborn stays in its parents’ room at night for the first six months. A moses basket will be great for the sprog but it will quickly become too small. Portability is also a factor to consider. Carrycots will be far easier to transport than a bed. This is a real benefit when it comes to going away or visiting friends.
A cot will serve its purpose for a couple of years. They feature safety rails to keep the child from climbing out. They can often be height adjusted too, which makes things more practical for the parent. Choose a mattress that is supportive rather than saggy. If there is storage underneath, this will quickly find its use for containing infant clothes!

There are portable versions that come in handy. They are either foldable or come in a child changing bag. The main mat should be plastic, as it will be easy to wipe clean on a daily basis. It should contain raised edges to keep the newborn where it is.
Having said that, never leave the sprog alone while it is on the mat, just as you wouldn’t if it was in the bath. Some mats have cotton inserts that can be placed on the top. This will stop the child from feeling cold as it touches the plastic. If the mat is foam filled, this will provide a comfy environment for the sprog to rest.

The hospital will not release the newborn unless one of these exists in your car. It should be rear-facing and fully installed and secure. If a letter E is printed on the seat, this means it has passed the EU safety regulations. When buying the seat, ask the shop assistant whether you can take it to your car to try it out.
Check the internet for fitting instructions. The company website or Youtube should be the first port of call. When the child is put into the seat, there should be space for two fingers between the strap and the newborn’s chest. There should be front buckles around the belly button to keep the child secure.

This is another transportation item. Some buggies have a feature allowing newborn children to lie down. Think about getting in and out of the car: the goal may be to purchase one that is light in weight and yet sturdy. Pushchairs are certainly more hardy than strollers. Before buying, check the following: the brakes and locking devices, the back and footrests, and safety harnesses.

This will provide some real times of fun and bonding with the newborn. Initially, it may be unsure of the experience of getting wet, but that will soon change! Top and tail baths are a sort of compromise: they aren’t for fully cleaning the newborn. Instead, they are for cleansing the child’s neck and head, hands, and bottom.
Support for a child’s back and head are often built into bath designs. Another type is the bucket-shaped bath. This provides a bathing experience where the newborn sits up or rests in the foetal position. This item will be a valuable tool until the child is large enough to use the family bath.
We’ve talked about just six of the key purchases a parent-to-be has to make. It is important to research online and read reviews. The products need to be sturdy and strong, and the child’s safety is paramount. When the equipment all comes together, the stage is set for the next phase. It’s going to be fantastic - prepare to fall in love!
