To make yourself look younger, you don’t have to stop with makeup and clothing. In fact, you can use jewelry in multiple ways to highlight and accentuate your beauty. You can accentuate your natural beauty by adding large chunky necklaces, costume rings, and elegant earrings, but how exactly can you wear these pieces to get the most out of them? Consider the following tips.

Stacked Rings and Bracelets

Your hands are one of the first things to show your age because of the general wear and tear they go through on a daily basis. Wear stacked bracelets on both wrists, preferably skinny ones with minimal accents to start, as they will put more attention away from your hands and onto your wrists - which stay elegant as we age. Then, begin adding rings.
If you have 2 or 3 bracelets on your arms, you can get away with adding bigger, chunkier rings or stacked bands like these emerald options from Diamondere. It’s a bad idea to stack large cocktail rings with skinny bands on one finger, but you can mix-and-match on one hand. Avoid having only large jewelry on one hand and small on the other because it will look off-balance.

Small Earings and Light Hoops

Wearing earrings daily can make your earlobes droop down and reveal large, elongated piercing holes. Many women get their pierced ears sewn up later in life to pierce it again to solve this issue, but if the damage isn’t too bad, you can wear light gold hoops or small studs. Find bigger backings to straighten and hold your piercing in place, so it doesn’t droop.
Although teardrop earrings can be elegant, they may draw too much attention to your neck if you have short hair or an up-do. Studs should be colorful - even at the expense of your outfit. For example, if you’re wearing a black pantsuit and a red shirt, try wearing a purple or orange stud to accent the color of your eyes.

Choose Metals Instead of Plastics if Possible

There’s nothing wrong with costume jewelry, but anything that’s too cheaply made can show your age. You’ll want your jewelry to shine, not to remain in the background, to draw attention to your jewelry and not your skin. However, what’s more important than the shine is the color, because the wrong metal type can make you look older as well.
Choose gold for warm undertones and silver for cool undertones. You’ll know your undertone by looking at your veins, as blue equals cool, and green equals warm. Choosing the wrong metal could enhance the dark circles under your eyes or highlight skin issues. It’s also ill-advised to mix metal tones on your skin - just stick to one.

Mix and Match

Jewelry sets were popular in the 80s and 90s, but are now out of fashion. Choosing a set over a mixed and matched ensemble could show your age because you’ll seem out-of-touch instead of the boss you are. Use jewelry that compliments each other, like pairing blacks with golds, large necklaces with small rings, and studded earrings with a large buckled belt.

Less is More

Coco Chanel once said to remove one piece of jewelry before leaving the house - and for a good reason. Overcrowding accessories always come off as trying too hard, even on younger women. If you feel heavy, too done up, or you think that your minimalist dress would look better without that bracelet, it's always better to remove it.
