Whether you are planning on renting out a room out on air BnB or want a guest bedroom for when family and friends come to stay, making your spare room into a guest room is more than putting clean bed linens on. It is making the room feel welcoming and comfortable, somewhere that your guests will feel safe, happy, and be able to relax. Here, we look at some of the things that you can do to change an ordinary spare room into a guest room that no one wants to leave!
Clear out drawers and hanging space
Guests, especially those staying for more than a couple of days, will most likely want to unpack their clothes and belongings from their suitcases. Make sure to empty a few dresser drawers and leave plenty of empty hangers in the closet. Offer the use of an iron if necessary - clothes can get very wrinkled in a case.
Have somewhere for them to put their technology
It is reasonable to assume that your guests will arrive with smartphones, laptops, and other tech devices. Ensure that they can log in easily by giving them the WiFi login and password. You could print it off and leave it on the nightstand or even use a QR code Generator for them to simply scan with their cellphone. Make sure there are enough charging points, and it is always a nice touch to leave a universal cellphone charger for them to use.
Leave a basket of toiletries
A basket full of fresh towels, disposable toothbrushes, travel-size personal care items, and over-the-counter medications eliminates the need for your guests to have to ask you if they have forgotten something or need something late at night or early in the morning.
A jug of water and a glass
The last thing your guests want to do at night if they need to take medication or wake up thirsty is to have to stumble around an unfamiliar place to get a drink. Leaving a jug of fresh water on the nightstand with a glass, or a couple of bottles of water is a great idea.
Give them a set of spare keys
Leave a set of spare keys on the nightstand for your guests to come and go at their convenience. Do not forget to inform them of any alarm systems or difficult-to-open locks.
Make sure that you have decent curtains
A good set of black-out curtains is essential to make sure that your guests have a good night of sleep and are not woken up early by the light outside. Blinds also work but have curtains as well to give the room a more cozy and homely feel.
Leave slippers and soft flooring
Most people would not think to pack slippers but if they get out of bed, they can end up with chilly feet. Provide a few pairs of inexpensive washable slippers and making sure your guest room floor is covered with a plush, cozy rug.
