As we get near the date of the Super Bowl, talks about this amazing sporting event intensify. The Super Bowl is one of the most desired trophies in football and at the moment, the popularity of the event is at its highest peak.
For the athletes in the NFL, reaching the Super Bowl is one battle, and winning one is another. Every football player dreams about winning the Super Bowl and over the years we’ve seen some amazing achievements from athletes that are still breaking records in the league.
The dream of winning the Super Bowl is often amplified for the quarterbacks just because they are a crucial part of the team’s offense and often given credit for the team’s success.
This shows through the data from previous Super Bowls that in 31 out of 55 games, quarterbacks were crowned the Super Bowl MVPs. So, which quarterbacks have the most Super Bowl wins?
Let’s look back in history and find out which quarterbacks have the most Super Bowl wins in their career.
5. Bart Starr (2 Super Bowl Wins)
The fifth place is reserved for quarterbacks with two Super Bowl wins, such as Bart Starr. He was the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl and the first one to claim the second trophy. He was the main star for the Green Bay Packers when they defeated Oakland Raiders (33-14) and Kansas City Chiefs (35-10) and was named the Most Valuable Player in both championship games.
In his last two Super Bowls, Starr averaged 226 yards, one interception, and three touchdowns.
However, he is not the only one with two Super Bowl wins as he shares this position with other quarterbacks that achieved the same thing like Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Bob Griese, Roger Staubach, Ben Roethlisberger, Payton Manning, and Eli Manning.
4. Troy Aikman (3 Super Bowl Wins)
Despite having a slot career start, Aikman got a career boost after helping the Dallas Cowboys win three Super Bowl championships in just four seasons. He was one of the most deserved players for the back-to-back championship wins in 92’ and 93’ where Aikman won the Super Bowl MVP after throwing four touchdowns.
This would have easily a 3 Super Bowl wins in a row for Troy Aikman, but Dallas Cowboys were defeated in the conference championship in 1994. The next year, they came with a vengeance and managed to win the Super Bowl Championship against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
3. Terry Bradshaw (4 Super Bowl Wins)
At that time, Terry became the first-ever quarterback to win four Super Bowl championships and he did so by finishing his incredible career undefeated in the Big Game. He was one of the most talented players in the Pittsburg Steelers lineup and managed to bring the first championship title to the team after defeating the Minnesota Vikings (16-6).
Just like any world-class quarterback, he followed that up with another back-to-back championship win the next season. Since then, the Pittsburgh Steelers were quiet in the Super Bowl space at least for two seasons after returning again with a back-to-back win in 1998 and 79’.
Bradshaw managed to defeat the Dallas Cowboys for the Super Bowl crown and managed to get his hands on two Super Bowl MVP awards.
2. Joe Montana (4 Super Bowl Wins)
Joe Montana has the perfect Super Bowl record of 4 appearances and 4 wins for the San Francisco 49ers. He also managed to bring the first Super Bowl title for the 49ers in his first season as a full-time starting quarterback.
A few years later, he managed to win another Super Bowl by defeating the Miami Dolphins in 1984. His last two Super Bowl titles happen in style with a back-to-back win in 1988 and 89’ making him the second quarterback to reach four Super Bowl wins at that time.
He was a true beast on the field reaching total yardage of 357 and throwing five touchdowns in 1989. No wonder he was named the Super Bowl MVP in that match.
Montana also has a great record on his four Super Bowl apparencies averaging 285.5 yards per game and throwing 11 touchdowns. On top of that, there wasn’t a single intercepted pass by the opposition, and had rushing touchdowns in his first two Super Bowl appearances.
1. Tom Brady (7 Super Bowl Wins)
The first place for the quarterback with the most wins is reserved for no other than Tom Brady. He is a living legend who still actively plays in the big league and managed to win an amazing seven Super Bowl games.
He started his Super Bowl winning streak in his first season with the New England Patriots in 2002, where Brady led his team to a Super Bowl championship after defeating St. Louis Rams (20-17). In his first Super Bowl doubt, he was found napping in the locker room minutes before the start of the game, which shows his incredible calmness when it comes to big games.
After that, he managed to win back-to-back titles in 2004 and 05’, before finally reaching his record tie fourth Super Bowl title in 2015. A few seasons later, he won his fifth Super Bowl title helping him reach first place in NFL’s history for the quarterback with most Super Bowl wins.
This wasn’t the end of Tom Brady's incredible Super Bowl record as he managed to get his hands on another trophy in 2019. The biggest shock was winning the Super Bowl last season after transferring to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers which brought him the seventh Super Bowl title.
As of now, he sits on the throne for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history, not just for quarterbacks but for all athletes in the league.
