As a business owner, efficiency is one of the most important elements of running a business. The more efficient you and your staff members are, the better your chances are of making a profit and surviving during difficult growth periods.
There are many ways in which you can be efficient at work - you can take breaks, establish realistic goals, create a healthy working routine, concentrate on your tasks, design a relaxing working routine and more. Whichever ones you choose to try out first, each is as effective as the other at making you more efficient
Whether your work involves marketing, finance or sourcing parts for your business like OMRON parts, it’s always important to be efficient in order to save money. Below we look into our top tips on how to improve efficiency at work
Take regular breaks
It may sound counter-productive but taking regular breaks can actually make you more efficient at work. Taking a break gives your brain a moment to stop and relax, ready to go again when you start working. If you are working on a stressful task, this break is ideal as stressful tasks can take up a lot of brain power, causing the quality of your work to deteriorate. You don’t want to overdo your breaks but having regular 15-minute breaks can make a big difference to your work day and stop you from burning yourself out - it also makes you look more professional and that you look after your staff.
Establish realistic goals
Having realistic targets can have a big factor in how efficient you and others can be. Realistic targets are motivating and by being able to achieve them, you work harder in order to reap the rewards of them. If they are not realistic, you can quickly discover this and not work as hard as you know that even when you do work hard, you are not going to achieve the goals set. Unrealistic goals are very demotivating and can actually negatively affect how staff members perform.
Treat your staff well
When people are happy and enjoying their work, they are more likely to work hard as they are feeling good. To provide a positive workplace, treating your staff well is very important. Things like taking them out on staff activities such as shuffleboard, dart, pool or a drink down the pub can give them a chance to bond together. Providing their breakfast helps give them a few more minutes in bed and helping them with childcare shows you care about them. It may be worth having a bonus structure which rewards team members who work hard and if you are doing well over Christmas, a Christmas bonus is always well received - and will help them improve efficiency when they are next back at work in the New Year.
