What is multi car insurance?
If you own more than one car, instead of having a separate policy for each car, multi car insurance allows you to cover more than one car on one single policy.
Each car will be listed under the same policy and policyholder, yet you’re able to customize specific coverage for each vehicle within the policy.
How does a multi-car policy work?
Just like you would sign up for a single car policy, a multi car policy is the same. The only exception is adding multiple cars onto your quote and ultimately onto your policy.
However, it’s good to note here that the number of cars you can cover may vary with insurance providers, and will also depend on the state in which you live.
Do you get a discount with multi car insurance?
When your policy covers more than one car, you will automatically be eligible for multi car discount on your premium.
For some insurance companies, the discount is automatically applied to each car, including the first car in your policy, once there’s more than one car on your policy. Other companies may wait until the policy quote is completely filled to show you what discount rate you could receive when turning your quote into a fully-fledged policy.
In most cases, when you receive your policy, a breakdown of your price can be found within the documents, showing where you’ve saved and the discount you’ve received.
Are there perks to having multi car insurance?
If saving on your policies wasn’t enough, there are other perks you could discover when you take out multi car insurance, such as:
- You receive a quote for your whole policy, with no need to go through the process for each car you wish to cover.
- You won’t have to file multiple policy documents to cover each car as your single policy will outline the coverage as well as your savings for each car on the policy, in one cohesive document.
- No need to worry about multiple renewal dates. Each car within your multi car insurance policy will have the same renewal date.
- Less paperwork, saving you from a headache, whilst saving the trees too!
Whose cars can be on your policy?
With most car insurers, you can have up to four cars on one multi car policy. Each car on your policy must be registered, kept within the same US state and be registered under your name or your spouse’s.
If you want to add your child’s car to your policy, the car must be registered in you or your spouse’s name.
Can you customize the coverage for each car on the policy?
Although your policy covers multiple cars, it’s easy to tailor your cover for each car, to suit your car and insurance needs.
Each car on your policy will carry the same liability insurance, which will cover you for damage you may cause to other drivers’ vehicles or their property. However, beyond damage cover, you can add extra coverages to specific vehicles on your policy.
