Outside the city limits of Houston in the adjacent community of Spring, Texas, there are plenty of opportunities for work with some of the area's best employers who can elevate your career and limit your commute.
Whether it is in finance, health care, retail, hospitality or even roofing spring tx offers workers plenty of options for workers in the area. For example, the home services businesses of Chapparal Plumbing Contractors, LGI Homes and Accent Shudder & Shades were listed among the top 11 places to work in the area in 2019, the most recent year available for the ratings by the website Zippia. Electra Link and MedData are two tech companies included on the list of the top companies in the area.
Spring is in Harris County, considered a census-designated place inside the broader region of Houston. The community is included in the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area and has a population of about 55,000.
The top overall companies to work for in the Spring, Texas area are, not surprisingly, in the dominant energy industry that serves much of this area. Petroleum Wholesale and Cudd Energy Services are the top first- and second-place companies, respectively, cited in Zippia's list with the highest scores.
Cisco Systems and Hewlett Packard, two long-standing tech companies in this region of Texas, also are among the larger employers identified among the area's top ones that received high scores. HP, a Fortune 500 company that previously was based in California, announced in December 2020 it was relocating its global headquarters to Spring, Texas. Construction of a new, state-of-the-art complex for the company, which is expected to open in 2022, likely will bring even more jobs to HP and the area when the building is completed, local and state officials said.
Some of the top employers of the area did not make the list of best places to work, although that doesn't mean they are not highly considered by their workers. Companies such as H-E-B, MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Houston System, Shell, Chevron, Deloitte and Baylor College of Medicine are among the largest companies in the Spring, Texas, area.
Several businesses in the area made Yelp's list of Best Hot New Businesses, including Island Fin Poke and Poke Yana restaurants, and Eagle Nails and Spa. Those businesses and several others noted by Yelp opened within the past several months.
The best manufacturing companies identified in the area included Chevron Phillips Chemical, Huntsman Corporation and Lord Corp., according to the website ClearlyRated.com.
Many of the lists of the best places to work or best companies are produced as a result of online polls that are conducted to attract interest in the companies. In some cases, like employment websites or consumer sites, the surveys are completed by actual employees or customers. While the lists often are quite subjective, they offer insights into the top companies in an area, based on marketing, employee and reader surveys completed.
