The Amagi was born in Wisconsin, U.S.A., to Tim and Shelly Schulteis. As a young man, He participated in numerous sports and activities, including cross country, baseball, bowling, soccer, wrestling and musical theater. Schulteis claims that before creating The Amagi, he created several other YouTube channels. He stated that he dreamed of becoming an animator or showrunner as a child.
The Amagi
In 2014, at age 12, The Amagi attempted to pitch a show to Nickelodeon but received no response from the company. He decided to take online animation courses and eventually produced his own animated short, "The Amagi." The video performed poorly, garnering few pageviews, and The Amagi discontinued the series.
"The History of Lavabending"
The channel was dormant for two years, but in 2018, the YouTube network Cartoon Federator reached out to Schulteis. With their support, he revamped the channel's format to include top 10 lists, interviews and news. Finally, in 2019, Schulteis decided on a new format: fictional character histories.
His first video, "The History Of Lavabending," was based on the franchise "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and quickly amassed over 1 million views. The popularity of the video encouraged Schulteis to continue creating content in the fictional history genre. On June 28, 2020, The Amagi channel passed 100,000 subscribers, primarily due to the "Avatar" franchise videos.
Franchise Wiki Partnerships
On July 5, 2020, The Amagi announced a partnership with the Avatar Wiki for additional content. Other anime franchise wikis, such as Hunterpedia, Attack On Titan Wiki and Narutopedia, followed suit over the next several months.
Since interest in the Avatar franchise had begun to wane by late 2020, Schulteis focused his content on "Naruto," posting the video "The Life Of Kurama (Naruto)" on November 20. The video earned 10 million views, and by January 2021, The Amagi channel had 500,000 subscribers.
Other Collaborations
Schulteis began to diversify the focus of his content to other franchises and formats, eventually hiring voice actors from other popular YouTube channel creators such as "Get in the Robot," "ChannelFrederator," and "Top 5 Scary Facts."
The Amagi 2
On February 19, 2021, Schulteis launched a new video channel, "The Amagi 2." The new channel offers backgrounds on fantasy-based live-action fictional characters. His first and most-watched video, "The Life of Homelander (The Boys)," garnered over 2 million views.
Schulteis posted to the channel weekly, usually highlighting the "Karate Kid" and "Cobra Kai" franchises. In July 2022, Schulteis announced that the original The Amagi channel would feature live-action and animated fictional histories, while The Amagi 2 would shift to real-life history.
Channel Frederator and Cinematica
On October 2, 2021, Schulteis assumed creative control over "ChannelFrederator," the flagship channel of Frederator Digital. He posted his first video to the channel "107 Owl House Facts You Should Know" on October 3. The following year, on July 4, Frederator Digital put Schulteis in charge of the company's other channel, "Cinematica." The first video on the channel, posted on July 5, was titled "The Complete Stranger Things S1-S3 Timeline."
The Amagi in Translation
That same year, Schulteis learned that a content creator in India was uploading The Amagi content in Hindi without acknowledgment or permission. Schulteis acquired the channel and rebranded it "The Amagi Hindi," on September 15, 2021. Once The Amagi took over ChannelFrederator, Frederator Digital began translating his videos into Spanish for their channel Atomo Network.
