Heading into another year of the pandemic, people are ready for change. I’m seeing it a lot with my business Transitions Hair Solutions and it’s even more evident with the hairstyles trending for 2022. Below I’m breaking down four trending hairstyles and what you need to know to maintain healthy hair.
The Chop
Whether it’s a bob or an instinctive cut, 2022 may be the year to give your tresses a big chop. This can be a good move if you have dead weight (and dead hair) you need to leave back in 2021. Bobs will always be in style and it is no different this year. There are many ways to wear this classic look, from messy and carefree, to more structured with clean edges. Go for a free-flowing vibe if you have naturally curly hair or commit to a sharp bob landing anywhere between the chin or collarbone, if you have straighter hair. Another style you can go for, especially if you have a little less to work with, is the pixie cut. It is a fusion of the bob and pixie cut. It’s a little longer than the pixie, but gives more texture than the bob. A bixie is super short and super easy to maintain. If you have a go-to stylist, whom you trust, maybe embrace instinctive cutting. This allows your stylist to cut freeform (of course taking inspiration from images you bring in) to create a cut specific to your face shape, hair texture, maintenance routine, and aesthetic! Knowing what products to use to maintain a style is always key. For maintaining a bixie, bob or similar cut, I suggest the CRLab’s Mousse from Cesare Ragazzi Laboratories in Italy. It defines and gives support to any hairstyle, leaving hair soft, shiny, and nourished. It has blueberry extract, a powerful antioxidant that protects your hair. It also has basil extract which helps to illuminate the hair.
Middle Parts
This style reigns supreme from high fashion to social media. There is something effortless about this style that brings about a cool element to almost anyone. Wearing it as a sleek updo can also help cover any traction alopecia. Swap out the tightly pulled updo, for an easy low bun to avoid any unnecessary tension against your scalp. This easy style only needs a little gel on a brush to give a smooth, sleek finish. The number one key is to keep it casual. A product I suggest for this look is CRLab’s Hair Gloss. It helps controls unruly strands while making hair silky soft. It contains blueberry extract which is a powerful antioxidant that protects your hair.
Bangs
Bangs are big trend. With so many possibilities, you can pick the perfect style for your face shape. Curtain bangs bring back a 70s vibe creating volume in the front, nicely framing your face, and hiding any thinning areas. If you have a little less to work with on the top, go for bottleneck bangs that start short in the middle and get longer down your face towards your cheekbones. If you have curly hair, you can try a cascading fringe that will show off your natural curl pattern. It can also be a great way to embrace your natural texture and help avoid regular heat and the damage it can often cause.
Shaggy Layers
This is another take on the bob, but this time we’re adding a little spice. By getting some fringed edges and razored layers you can give yourself a choppy look while playing with any length. This is a fun look to let your stylist get creative with. You can also pair this with shaggy bangs, or go for a clean hairline.
If you’re still on the fence about a new look for 2022 the good news is you can mix and match with any of these looks. It's important to choose what feels good for YOU. Honor your hair’s natural features and let it flow.
