Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opioid used to manage moderate to severe pain. Often combined with acetaminophen, hydrocodone acts by altering the way the brain perceives pain. It is commonly prescribed for pain following surgery, injury, or for chronic pain conditions. While highly effective, hydrocodone has a significant risk of dependence, abuse, and addiction if not taken as prescribed. Common side effects include drowsiness, constipation, and nausea. Hydrocodone should be used only under the supervision of a healthcare provider to minimize the potential for misuse and addiction.
