Adults who struggle to fall asleep (insomnia) can be treated temporarily with AMBIEN, a prescription sleep aid. A prescription medication called AMBIEN CR is used to treat adults who have problems falling asleep and/or waking up frequently during the night. AMBIEN and AMBIEN CR's efficacy and safety in children younger than 18 years old are unknown. It is not advised for children less than 18 to take AMBIEN or AMBIEN CR.
