The reviews for the new Audi A3 Sportback are in, and the hatchback is getting heavy praise. WhatCar has given it a four-star rating in a glowing review, while Top Gear have described it as “possibly the most roundly talented” hatchback on the market. But why is it so highly rated?
Engine size
The Audi A3 Sportback's default option is the petrol engine 109bhp 1.0-litre 30 TFSI. An ideal size to cruise around town and run any errands. However, there are bigger, more powerful options if you require something a little sportier with the zip to get around quickly. There are also diesel options too if that takes your fancy. Plus, there’s a hybrid option that gives you, what might be, the paciest engine of the range – achieving 0-60 in 7.6 seconds.
Comfort and noise
The A3 is considered an ideal car to get around town in, and this is partially due to its excellent ride. The small wheels and soft suspension ensure that you rarely feel a bump and achieve a smooth journey. The engine only adds to this: its quiet tones are rarely distracting and combine with the suspension to ensure you keep a low profile on city streets. There’s also plenty of space for the family. The passenger seats in the back won’t be luxurious for a tall adult, but they contain enough space to avoid discomfort. The boot also has the capacity to carry plenty of items when necessary.
Features
The A3 comes with all sorts of fittings to cover you as you travel around. There are parking sensors and cameras that ensure you won’t scratch your new car. The lights are also an upgrade on this edition: the A3 comes with matrix LEDs that mean you can leave your main beams on in traffic without dazing other drivers. On top of that, there’s a satnav and infotainment system included on a sleek touchscreen – you’ll rarely get lost, plus you’ll have entertainment covered on any long journeys. Ultimately, it comes with the features consumers hope for to make both short trip and long hauls comfortable.
Price
There’s a wide range of options and different ways to customise your A3, so the price point can change. But the vehicle starts at £24k and tops out at around £45k. If this is beyond you at the moment, then you could always explore leasing an Audi A3 Sportback to make the cost more manageable over a period of time.
Ultimately, the A3 Sportback makes for an elegant hatchback for driving around town. It can meet the less extreme sporty ambitions you might have, while working well for families too.
